How to Caress a Dog (the right way) — Illustrated by Guillermo Meza!
There are so many ways to show affection to a dog — but not every spot feels the same to them!
Here’s a simple guide to where (and where not) to caress your furry friend:
🐕 If they let you caress them here, you’ve made a friend:
The lower back or rump area — gentle strokes here usually bring happy tail wags.

💛 This one’s often a favorite:
Right under the chin, along the jawline. It’s a tender, trust-filled spot most dogs adore.

🐶 If your dog feels relaxed with you:
Try a soft touch on the chest. They’ll love the calm connection.

👂 Ears!
Many dogs enjoy a light rub behind or at the base of their ears.

😴 Avoid touching them while they sleep.
As tempting as it is, it’s best to let them rest peacefully — a startled dog might react suddenly.

🚫 Better to skip:
Muzzle, paws, and tail — these are sensitive areas most dogs prefer you leave alone.

✨ Every dog is different — let their body language guide you. When they lean in, relax, or wag, you’re doing it right!
